I know it has been awhile since my last post, we don't have internet anymore.

So I never know what to post when I blog, so instead of trying to be creative and witty, I will just post what my "thing" is lately.

My "thing" is eating healthy. I am taking a nursing nutrition class, I am going to take it upon myself to give you healthy eating tips, whether you want them or not.
  • Tip #1: make sure you get your calcium servings in everyday, calcium helps you to lose fat. Calcium supplements won't work, it needs to be something along the lines of yogurt, cheese, milk, etc.
  • Tip#2: eat more fiber! only like 25% of the population gets enough fiber everyday. Try and incorporate fiber into every meal. Example, oatmeal in the morning, wheat bread at lunch, corn or beans at dinner. If that is too hard, try to add it to at least one meal where it is the main dish. My favorite fibrous snack are black beans with tomatoes served on a small flour tortilla. The great thing about fiber is that is moves through your system fast and picks up debris along the way, it also makes you feel "full". (side note: fat is the slowest moving thing in the digestive process).
  • Tip #3: when looking at nutrition labels think about percentages. 25% is high, 5% is low. If it is a good item (fiber, vitamins, minerals, etc) 25% is good, if it is bad item (sodium, fat, etc) 25% is bad. You get the idea.

New food that I have picked up:
  • Quinoa (grain from south america), good source of iron and fiber, also pretty tasty.
