I had no idea you were gluten intolerant! No fun. I had a bunch of food allergies back in the day, then they all went away when I got pregnant! Who knew? Anyway, I have a bunch of food that is gluten free that I don't plan on using...let me know if you want it!

Gluten Free cause you want to be or need to be? Bummer!! Is that why you fell jogging had some bad food attack?

I decided to go gluten-free because I feel like I am always sick to my stomach no matter what I eat, it has been like this since I was little. I am going to try gluten-free for a month and if I don't see a difference I will try a lactose-free diet. It has only been a few days and it has been HARD!!! All of my favorite foods are made of wheat (flour chili verde enchiladas, honey-nut cheerios, BREAD, etc, etc.

Jenica! I have a few tips up my sleeve for going gluten-free. First, you wrote that you are going to try lactose-free next month. I'd recommend doing both at the same time. I was lactose-intolerant due to Celiac Disease.
Alrighty, what I can dish up:
- The Spaghetti Factory, PF Chang's, Pei Wei, and Chili's have gluten-free menus. I have had luck at Chipotle with their burrito bowls (just request that they change gloves). The riskiest thing I eat is the chicken tostada at Cafe Rio. So far I haven't gotten sick. Fancy restaurants are usually very helpful. The servers and chefs at Market Street and Tuscany have been great!
- Against the Grain in Taylorsville is a great place to walk around and see what brands/products are gf. I don't buy much there but they post notices about changes in foods (like orange Shasta has gluten! agh!)
- Be careful about lip glosses/sticks/etc. I stick to Burt's Bees mostly.
- The best pasta, in my opinion, is Mrs. Leeper's corn. The veggie one makes for a great pasta salad! Many people prefer rice-based pastas but I think they are gross.
- Whole Foods has a lot of gf mixes that are, comparably, a good deal.
- Everything I've tried by Glutino's has been tasty. I love their pretzels and plain bagels. You can get both at the Harmon's on Highland Drive.
- Target has the best prices anywhere for Amy's frozen dinners. Check the boxes to see which ones are gf or not (the cheese enchiladas are my favorite, second is the tofu scramble).
- I see you like Honey-Nut Cheerios. Get excited my friend! Honey-Nut Chex are now gf! They are totally delicious.
- Avoid anything with oats due to cross-contamination. You can buy specially-marked oats that are gluten-free, but some people with gluten issues also have trouble with oats. My dietitian told me to avoid all oats for at least 6 months after starting the diet.
- If you think you have Celiac or a gluten-intolerance, you're going to have to go back on a glutenous diet for the blood tests and biopsies to get the dx.
- Focus on what you can eat rather than what you can't! The glass is more than half full! I always avoid the bread aisle but stroll slowly through the produce -- where everything is gluten-free! :-)
