Yesterday on Radio West with Doug Fabrizio they talked about the "Deseret Alphabet". This was news to me, I had never heard of it before. Apparently Brigham Young wanted to simplify english writing to make it more phonetic. He comissioned a person to create this new alphabet. The goal was to give one letter to every sound, instead of having many sounds to one letter. They printed a few Book of Mormons in this alphabet and they are worth upwards of about $10,000. Another interesting fact is that all of Brigham Young's writings were written phonetically. There is more information at http://www.deseretalphabet.com/ and also pictures of some of the published books.
